Have questions about our services, or your electrical system? The professionals at Dix Electrical are here to answer all of your questions or to help you get started with your electrical project. Here are our most commonly asked questions and their answers, but if you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

  • Q: What is a Red Residual Current Device or Safety Switch?

A: These are specialised devices in your switch boards. They help prevent electrocution. When they are “tripped” it is often because of moisture inside the outlet or appliance or there's a power surge. If you notice the outlet isn’t working, you can reset. If it won’t reset, that means there is a more serious issue that needs to be inspected by an electrician.

  • Q: What is the difference between a circuit breaker and a fuse?

A: Both have similar functionalities, with the circuit breaker being the more popular of the options. Each prevents injury and damage to your system by turning off the flow of power when there is fault. A fuse, however, is destroyed during this process and will need to be replaced after this happens. In a circuit breaker, nothing will need to be replaced. Just reset.

  • Q: Why should I switch to solar power?

A: Solar energy is the way of the future. It is not only far more eco-friendly than most other means of power production, but it can help you save money over the long run. Once you factor in government rebates intended to encourage people to switch to solar, you may wind up saving money far sooner. Solar energy can be used to provide most, and sometimes all, of your power needs if you live in a good solar area.

  • Q: My power is out. What should I do?

A: The first thing to check is whether or not you have tripped the circuit breaker. If so, find the offending breaker and flip the switch back into the on position. If that isn’t it, check with your local energy provider to make sure there is no widespread outage. If that also isn’t the problem, give us a call
